EMOTIONAL COPING The emotional toll cancer takes on patients,
families, and friends is exhausting and often unpredictable.
We
have found that our biggest areas of concern have centered around communication...how we talk with others and how we hear what
they say.
It is important to share your feelings and emotions with
others who will understand. This is equally true for patients and families alike. Talk with other cancer patients and
their caretakers. Don't isolate yourself from others.
The best way we have found to deal with any type of
emotional strain is to use a well-developed sense of humor and to
reduce stress.
